In conjunction with the Buffalo Volunteer Rifles (BVR) Military Museum and the curatorial assistance of Military Historian, Maj. (Ret) Anthony Step, the East London Museum opened a commemorative temporary exhibition on World War I. The exhibition is a tribute to South African participation, and touches on stories of the Kaffrarian Rifles' (now Buffalo Volunteer Rifles) involvement.

Artifacts from the East London Museum collection, the collections of BVR, M.O.T.H.S (Memorable Order Of Tin Hats), The S A Legion of Military Veterans and a few members of the public, which were kindly loaned for display, include photographs, Field Service books, diaries, scrapbooks, maps, certificates, clothing, weapons, military supplies, etc. Replica medals and plaques are on display and documentaries on WWI are showing.
